Elle Fanning Dazzles in Custom Pastel Coach Gown at AFI Tribute to Francis Ford Coppola

The actor embraces springtime elegance with a silk, crystal-embellished look honoring the legendary director.

Elle Fanning fully embraced the spirit of spring on Saturday, April 26, as she graced the red carpet at the American Film Institute’s 50th Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony honoring Francis Ford Coppola.

The A Complete Unknown actor stepped out in a stunning custom-made Coach gown, effortlessly capturing the evening’s sense of legacy and elegance. Fanning, who serves as a global ambassador for Coach, wore a peach-colored silk dress that fell gracefully to her calves. The gown featured a satin lace-back corset structure adorned with intricate Swarovski crystal embroidery, finished with a bold, flat-set bow across the bodice for an added touch of sophistication.

Completing her look, Fanning chose silver peep-toe pumps and a delicate bow barrette that secured her slicked-back hair, creating a polished silhouette. Her makeup look was equally refined, featuring bronzed eye shadow, defined brows, and a glossy nude lip.

The ceremony, held in Hollywood, drew an impressive lineup of directors and storytellers, including Ron Howard, Spike Lee, and George Lucas, all there to celebrate Coppola’s enduring influence on cinema.

Fanning’s presence at the event carried an added layer of personal significance, having worked with Coppola early in her career on his 2011 film Twixt, in which she starred alongside Val Kilmer.

A Rising Style Icon

Elle Fanning’s red carpet appearances have been widely celebrated over the past year, particularly during the promotional tour for A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan biopic starring Timothée Chalamet. She has consistently leaned into '60s-inspired fashion choices, echoing the aesthetic of the film’s historical setting.

Despite her expansive filmography and growing critical acclaim, Fanning has spoken candidly about the challenges of moving beyond early typecasting. In an interview with Teen Vogue last December, she reflected on the expectations that followed her role as a Disney princess in Maleficent.

“For me, it was like, ‘Oh, you're the Disney Princess girl! You’re always happy and smiley.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, I do smile a lot, I am a pretty happy person, but not all the time. It’s a role.’ You would think people would get it, but they still want to put you in a box,” she said.

Fanning’s appearance at the AFI tribute, exuding a mix of youthful freshness and timeless elegance, proved once again that she continues to carve out a dynamic space for herself both on screen and in the world of fashion.
