League of Legends Spin-Off 2XKO Gets a Smaller March Playtest, New Features Unveiled

League of Legends Spin-Off 2XKO Gets a Smaller March Playtest, New Features Unveiled

Riot’s latest fighting game spin-off, 2XKO, is set to receive a scaled-down playtest in March, contrary to earlier plans for a large-scale event. According to game director Shaun Rivera, the smaller test will allow the team to build out the necessary infrastructure for an even larger playtest later this year.

A Response to Leaks and Community Feedback

Rivera took to X to dispel rumors circulating on the 2XKO subreddit regarding the cancellation of a major March playtest and the introduction of new gameplay features. “We’re not canceling the playtest entirely,” he clarified. “We’re simply planning a much smaller one now, while we work on expanding our testing infrastructure.”

Exciting New Gameplay Adjustments

The update comes with several notable changes that promise to refresh the gameplay experience:

Autocombo Toggle: The existing Pulse Fuse—which enabled beginner-friendly autocombos—will be removed. Instead, autocombo functionality will be available as a toggleable option in the game’s settings. This change is aimed at letting players enjoy powerful Fuses while tailoring their combat style to personal preferences.

New Sidekick Fuse: In a significant design shift, the Sidekick Fuse is set to replace the traditional tag-based mechanic. This new Fuse prevents a team’s point and assist character from swapping roles, granting bonus health to the point character to offset their fixed role. Essentially, it transforms one character into a dedicated support role, mirroring one of the core roles from League of Legends itself. Rivera noted that this change responds to player feedback, offering a more support-oriented experience that allows newcomers to learn the game at their own pace.

Looking Ahead

2XKO is slated to be a free-to-play title, with an official release scheduled for sometime in 2025. The game first garnered attention during its Alpha Lab playtest in August 2024, which ran for just over a week and was noted for its work-in-progress elements and occasional technical issues.

Players interested in joining future playtests can sign up on the 2XKO website, as Riot continues to refine the game based on community input. With these updates, 2XKO is set to evolve into a dynamic and engaging fighting game that builds on the legacy of League of Legends in an exciting new way.
