FA Cup Quarter-Finals: Manchester United Women Face Sunderland, Top WSL Teams Host Key Clashes

FA Cup Holders Manchester United Set to Face Sunderland in Quarter-Finals

Women's FA Cup holders Manchester United will host second-division side Sunderland in the quarter-finals, a matchup that offers a classic "David vs. Goliath" narrative.

Sunderland, who currently sit sixth in the Women’s Championship, are the only non-Women’s Super League (WSL) team left in the competition. The fixture will take place at Leigh Sports Village, where Manchester United will aim to defend their title after winning the Women’s FA Cup for the first time in 2024 by beating Tottenham Hotspur in a memorable final at Wembley Stadium.

Editor’s Note: "Cup competitions are always unpredictable, and Sunderland will certainly be looking to cause an upset against the reigning champions."

Other Quarter-Final Matchups

The remaining three ties will feature all-WSL clashes. Reigning champions and current WSL leaders Chelsea will host bottom-placed Crystal Palace, a fixture that highlights the stark contrast in league positions.

Meanwhile, Manchester City will face Aston Villa, while 14-time FA Cup winners Arsenal take on Liverpool. All matches promise to deliver exciting football as the top four WSL teams have the home advantage.

Editor’s Insight: "These matchups showcase the depth of talent in the WSL and could give us a preview of the league’s end-of-season battles."

Schedule and Key Dates

The Women’s FA Cup quarter-final matches are scheduled to take place over the weekend of Saturday, 8 March, and Sunday, 9 March. Fans can expect high-intensity games as teams compete for a place in the semi-finals.
