Should You Feed the Small Bourgeon in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?

A single act of mercy now may grant you massive rewards later.

As you explore the stunning world of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you’ll come across numerous Nevrons—some friendly, others far more dangerous. One particularly curious encounter awaits in an optional dungeon called The Small Bourgeon, where you’ll meet a tiny, talking plant with big dreams: it wants to grow tall like its kin. But helping it triggers a larger question—should you feed it, and if so, should you fight it later?

Let’s break down everything you need to know before you decide.

📍 How to Find the Small Bourgeon

You can access The Small Bourgeon after leaving the Flying Waters area. On the world map, head right to find the optional dungeon. Make sure your party includes Gustave, Lune, and Maelle for the best chances in upcoming battles.

Inside the dungeon, the Small Bourgeon will ask for Bourgeon Skin so it can grow. Accept the quest, and you’ll be off to hunt its larger relatives.

🔍 Where to Find Bourgeon Skin

Your first encounter with a Bourgeon enemy likely happened near the end of Flying Waters. Return to the Lumerian Streets save point, backtrack, and take a hidden path on the left to face a powerful Grown Bourgeon. It’s a tough opponent early on, so don’t hesitate to come back later if needed.

Defeating this enemy rewards you with 1x Bourgeon Skin, which is all you need to feed the Small Bourgeon. After you give it the skin, leave the dungeon and return—your little friend will now be massive and will gift you 1x Colour of Lumina.

🪓 Should You Attack the Grown Bourgeon?

You can attack the now-enlarged Small Bourgeon. If you do, you’ll earn:

  • 5x Colour of Lumina

  • 1x Polished Chroma Catalyst

However, sparring the Grown Bourgeon unlocks a greater long-term reward later in the game. If you also spare Jar and Demineur—two other non-hostile Nevrons offering side quests—your kindness will be remembered.

💎 The Real Reward: Act III and Blanche

In Act III, you’ll gain the ability to fly with Esquie. Head to The Fountain, located near Spring Meadows, to meet a character named Blanche. If you’ve spared the Grown Bourgeon, Jar, and Demineur, Blanche will reward you with:

  • 100x Colour of Lumina

That’s twenty times the reward from killing the Grown Bourgeon early.

But if you’ve slain any of them? Blanche becomes hostile. Prepare for a brutal fight requiring a minimum level 80. If you win, you’ll receive:

  • 10x Colour of Lumina

  • 2x Grandiose Chroma Catalyst

Not a bad reward—but still a far cry from the 100x Lumina for showing mercy.

🧭 Strategy Tip

After receiving Blanche’s reward, you can return and kill the Grown Bourgeon if you still want the 5x Colour of Lumina and Polished Chroma Catalyst. The game doesn’t penalize you for going back—just time your decisions wisely.

Final Verdict

Feed the Small Bourgeon and spare its life. The long-term payout of 100x Colour of Lumina easily outweighs the early gains from attacking it. Plus, it aligns with a broader in-game morality system that can influence how your story ends.
